I definately had no control and I was frequently erect for no apparent reason. I found it annoying and uncomfortable at times. Things were also pretty tight down there (foreskin and testicles) so that tended to make me stick out, erect of not especially when cold, and so it could be hard to tell what was an erection and what was not.
