Hello,
I saw your forum announcement on another forum. I have never posted there because of the extreme posts of discipline, which in these anti-spanking times seem strange to say the least. My son John, who just turned 9, has always been advanced in his school work. He learns at a much faster pace than most other children his own age, and has already skipped a grade. However, there is also a big drawback to this in that he also at times displays bad behavior, especially extreme rudeness and disrespect to him mom, mostly when I'm at work and not around. The doctors say that this is not uncommon in children (especially boys) who are a little advanced in certain areas.
The doctors suggested that we put him on Ritalin. However, my wife and I are totally against giving these types of medications to children. For a long time I had wanted to spank, but my wife was always against spanking (her family was anti-spanking, mine was extremely pro-spanking). However, about a year ago things changed. Bedtime was always a struggle because John never listened when his mom called out "lights out". He always ignore her and remained up for a while longer. So that evening at bedtime after John yelled something fresh at his mom when she told him "lights out", he received the surprise of his young life, as I had finally had enough of his mouth. I calmly walked into his room, grabbed hold of him, sat down on the side of his bed turning him across my lap, peeled down his PJ bottoms just enough to bare the target area, and administered a sound hand spanking! Despite his crying and carrying on, I knew that this first spanking needed to make a real impression, so I really laid on a good tanning, slowly and firmly. Afterwards, I brought him in to apologize to his mother, and they hugged, he then went straight to bed. A while later my wife wanted to go and check on him, but I wouldn't let her. Had she found him still awake she might have fussed over him and cuddled him, which might have defeated the whole spanking. John needed to know from the start that my wife and I are on the same side in this matter. After that night, lights out meant lights out, without any further nonsense!
Since that time John has been over my knee as often as he has needed it. My wife too has come a long way. While at first she didn't always tell me about John's bad behavior, now she most certainly does. And while she's still not able to spank John herself (Rome wasn't built in a day), she now uses the 'S' word fluently when John acts up, such as "Cut it out, or I'll tell your dad to spank you tonight".
While John still has a long way to go, his overall behavior has improved quite a bit, and no Ritalin required, only a good old-fashioned red bottom! It really works wonders! LOL!
