*tight squhug* sorry to hear your "father" passed away.
i feel in a way the same, my genitors are in age to go to elderlies house soon, a couple of years ago my grand parents told me my "father" had a hip prothesis with several surgeries for it (the Nurse aides werent delicate, the prothetis had to be put back in good position several times and an infection), my grand parents told me he cried of suffering, he never cried during the 19 years i lived with the genitors, except the day of my trauma. It's so weird i take care tons more of my own patients (NA in elderlies houses) than of the ones who gave me life, i never called him to bring him comfort/support/to get news about the surgeries.
My work is a passion, i love to take care of my patients, to spend my time with them to bring them comfort during their last moments but im not able to take care of the ones who gave me life, it's weird but it's like that because it's the only way to stay safe and to not lose strength. We are strong, and all the way we did through years we must never forget...
pssst you arent a downer Rez, you are having a hard time, all together we can help you to go through this, you broke the chains of your own Trauma it's a Very important Victory/step on the Survivor's way. The goal of our dark passenger is to make us feel guilty, to put the shame on us, to devour us, to control our life but we are stronger than him. Our dark passenger is a part of us, but we can control him, altogether, you are never alone. Btw i love your Rez name and it makes you unique ;)
Take care.

Here some pics, hope they will help you too
