 I never asked my friends how they were punished, but I suspect we were all getting spanked. (This was the late 80s/early 90s.) Since my mom was friends with my friends' moms, they would often swap stories about their kids (us). My mom told her friends when I got in trouble and when I had gotten spanked, and sometimes that got passed on to my friends. I imagine it was used as a cautionary tale ("You know, Kevin got spanked for doing that..."). They would tease me about it, and I didn't like the power imbalance it caused. I would have liked to know about their spankings so we could have been even.
