Got it. Yeah, I don't know for sure the current status. I was in public schools from roughly 1961-1973 in San Jose. I know they were not given in the schools I attended there during that time. My 6th grade teacher was the school's disciplinarian more or less. He'd make kids hold dictionaries out with their arms extended and I have even seen him smack a kid over the head with his plastic covered notebook. Maybe CP was being done but nobody knew about it. But I think word would have gotten out.

Down here in Southern Cal it phased out in the mid-60's. When I was in elementary through 9th grade 1961-1970 it was common. IN Jr. High boys could get swats but girls no. By the time I got to HS 10-12th grade, no more.

Okay. Thanks for the information, Robert. I suspect that's how it was up in the Bay Area too. But back then, even though spanking was still common, I never heard once in HS about anyone getting spanked. I graduated in 1973.

By the time I was in HS I had not heard of anyone getting paddled in any of the HS's I was familiar with either. I also graduated in 1973.
