Reminded me of an incident a friend shared with me...
"My whole HS basketball team got paddled once together. 16 or 17 girls, 6 paddle swats each or more if you moved out of position. I got one extra. Actually it was more than that because the girl who was team manager and a couple of girls from the cheer squad got it too so probably 20." They didn't mess around back in the day!"
The reason for the mass paddling...
"A fight, more like a brawl among some of the girls. I was not involved. Everybody was going to stick together and not talk about who did what, The school wasn't about to cancel the season, which was an option for bad behavior and poor sportsmanship, so the coach decided to paddle the whole team instead. The good part is, I wasn't in trouble for it at home. The bad part was, it wasn't a symbolic paddling. Our coach knew how to use a paddle. Nobody made it through without crying."
