 Yes, I wasn't trying to claim that there are no crazy parents or badly conceived methods of raising children out there. I'd be interested to know how these children turned out as adults, and what they think of their parents. Assuming they are telling the truth.

Yes, i remember getting one memorable spanking from my parents when i was small. Spanking was not an every day occurrence so the one time spanking I got was impactful.

Florence, the circumstances of the spanking are the issue here. Spankings can be very impactful for children, and in different ways depending on how mature the child is and how sensitive they are to an experience of being spanked. Did you perceive that spanking you got as fair and something you deserved, where your parents were doing their best to guide and protect you for your own good and teaching you that there are consequences for bad behavior? Or did they spank you just to teach you that, no matter how you behave, they must be feared?
