 I grew up in Ohio. It was not uncommon there, especially i more rural areas, to hear a parent threaten younger kids with a spanking. “Do you want me to bust your butt” was something I heard often. I have lived in the South for about a dozen years now, and while I don’t hear threats like that made, I have actually seen a few times moms giving a younger kid a couple of smacks on the butt in public. No one seems to be fazed by that.

I'm in Kentucky where you get spanked with the Bible Belt.
When I was younger my parents un-airconditioned church would have a longggggggggg Sunday service followed by a social, but first all the kids who couldn't behave through the service went down the basement for a spanking.
