 A real slap, one that actually hurts, is rather risky and seems to me to be a bad idea since fingernails, rings, bracelets etc. can cause injuries.

More symbolic "smacks" are less dangerous but do carry a lot of influence but that message is somewhat mixed. It can be just a procedural comment. Wait your turn to speak and don't interrupt. But it also can suggest that your input or contribution is of no value. I, along with Abby, would not recommend this approach, regardless of age or social station in life.
