I've come to feel that a good smoking-fetish story is one that is also enjoyable to non smoking-fetishists. All of the reasons that fetishists might enjoy smoking in the story--- coming of age, glamour, corruption, etc.--- are themes that anyone can appreciate. Those who call themselves smoking fetishists are just those who have a particular appreciation for some of these themes, and have come to recognize this within themselves. I'd say that if someone writes a story that only a smoking fetishist would appreciate, then the story isn't doing a very good job of executing whatever theme it's trying to pursue, and probably wouldn't be the most enjoyable even for a smoking fetishist.

So, Bazzle, I think it's very possible for you to write stories for a non-smoking-fetishist audience while still incorporating smoking fetish elements, and I think that holding yourself to the constraint of entertaining even this audience will result in stories that are more enjoyable by the smoking fetishists as well.
