This was very flattering!

This story was a big inspiration for me. I have a few partial rewrites and sequels that will never see the light of public view, before I wrote my own stuff. So it’s gratifying to me mentioned, in a positive light even, in a review of the stories.

The Shawna stories are not perfect, not even the setting, but I have to admire an author that took their fetishes, and instead of trying to force them awkwardly into a convoluted and improbable plot, just went Fuck It, here’s a couple of sentences to explain how the world is different, and now my fetishes are perfectly natural in the story.

I maintain that the first paragraph of a story has basically infinite suspension of disbelief, and I really wish more authors took advantage of this. There so many stories with a random and highly improbable holdout of heavy smokers in the real world that the author has to go to increasingly convoluted ways to explain, when one solid opening paragraph would have accomplished more.

And yeah, the Shawna stories are a bit low common denominator, but I confess to liking a bit of trashy erotica from now and then. It’s good at being what it is. And points for creativity, because I don’t recall anyone writing anything like his earlier.

Personally I wish the story covered the consequences of such heavy smoking more. It’s one of the few stories where I accept that the protagonist smokes 5ppd, but she doesn’t seem to suffer for her habit, which undermines the point somewhat.
