Thank you for your responses.
I meant no offense or disrespect, or to be involved in a flame war.
As an aerospace engineer have done quite a bit of writing on technical subjects. I’ve also written factual historical works that have been published, along with personal finance subjects and opinion pieces. And I abhor editing, other than correcting obvious spelling and grammar mistakes (typos). Many people have said I write well (laugh now if you wish). I have known many engineers, born and schooled in this country, who cannot read and write.
Some editing I’ve received goes like this: “Need you corect spell and too grammer” from people who are ESL (English as a Second Language). In one case we received a handwritten letter from a USAF maintenance mechanic describing a need for a newly developed device that would improve aircraft reliability. It had several spelling and grammar mistakes, but the concept and his description were sound and well-explained. The letter was given to some ESL engineers who wrote all over it with red pen (“you writ air craf arong”) and promptly returned it to be corrected, not even considering the ideas presented.
So, whenever possible, I seldom accept edits unless valid. In one case I confronted an “editor” and exposed that he did not understand the aircraft system at all, so how could he edit my work? His edits would have stated the opposite to what I wrote, and what was required.
I like reading about smoking and smokers, and own stock in cigarette companies. I regard my interest as a smoking fascination, rather than a smoking fetish. I only like “PG-rated” stories of any kind, especially smoking-related.
And I want to try writing some of my own.
