Custom fitted clubs can be had for much less than most OEM clubs. Example would be KZG clubs from a local fitter or other head types from a competent club builder. For that matter, if the golfer is so inclined, he can build a set for himself using guidelines for shaft fitting that can be found on the web and in most clubbuilding books. (Built my irons 2 - Lob Wedge for around $160 dollars and am building new 3 and 5 wood with steel heads and graphite UST shafts for around $50 each.)Just the difference in length of a standard oem club vs a custom length club, built for your swing speed and height can make a vast difference in your performance on the course. If you are using a single axis method and need to have your clubs built upright, not having this done will result in more pushed shots due to the toe hitting the ground first and forcing the club face open. If the clubs need to have a flatter lie, your heel will hit first and force a pull on most shots. This is why many people feel their clubs twist in their hands at impact. If you are doing this on every shot then the improper fit of the clubs will mean that a larger percentage of your game will be affected than 25%. Also, to compensate for this you would have to change your swing plane and as a result think that the swing problems are because of a single axis swing rather than equipment. A simple change like 2 degrees upright or a change in clublength, can be the difference between a happy SA golfer and one who goes back to the same old grind of a traditional golf swing.

Just my 2 cents.
