Here is my take on things, for whatever it is worth, and I will try to "verbalize the obvious".

In 1995 Golf Digest came out with a tape that partnered Jack K with Moe Norman. Many people, like myself, entered into NG from this scene. However, we were always confused by the fact that Moe didn't swing like NG.

NG taught a quiet lower body and an arm swing. Probably the main distinction to Moe was the fact that NG promoted a lack of rotation of the hips (a denial) and the fact that the left arm stayed straight through and past the impact area, right into the follow through. See the pix of Todd Graves in the 1995 Golf Digest article to get a feeling of this. They, also, promoted a concept of "hammering" the ball, left arm rod and right arm piston.

Big Grip came along and, essentially, taught this same method, but moved the ball back in the stance, which made a lot more sense with the left arm remaining straight, which forces an up and under swing, left arm rod with right arm piston.

What Moe is actually doing is rotating the hips, even though it is minimal. In other words, the right hip rotates into the stumped right leg, and, on the downswing, it rotates onto a bent left leg. Understand that the leading edge of the left (leading) hip is the pivot point for that rotation. Most NGers would slide onto that left bent leg, when Moe was rotating onto the bent left leg, LEADING EDGE OF THE LEADING HIP BEING THE PIVOTAL POINT.

So to answer your question, the movement forward with the lower body is happening three frames before the arms start swinging. So just rotate into that right stumped leg, and rotate back out of it onto the bent left leg, and the arms will follow, but you can still have a sense of swing them. This is contrary to what people like Todd Graves who say it is an arms swing. The video doesn't support that position of Todd's. Practice this with a wide stance, like with the driver, and you will see that there is not much rotation at all, but, nonetheless, it is rotation.

In addition, on the downswing, the back of the left hand will stay facing forward for as long as possible, and, then, it will gate forward. You don't keep the left arm straight with Moe's swing. On the downswing, the left elbow will stay in place and the left hand will unhinge. If you keep the left arm straight or collapse the left wrist you will have a moving hinge. Go over to the other SA site and look at exercises 2 and 2.5 to understand this issue. If you do this properly, you will feel a speed differential between the two hands while you are hitting the ball.

On the backswing, the clubhead goes back towards the body more severly than you would think. The easiest way to understand this is to short grip your driver with the right hand down at the bottom of the grip, and with the shorter club you will see how fast the head comes up and then back towards the body, which bends the right arm and pushes the elbow backwards. Look at video of Moe and learn from the butt of the club, and you can learn that the fastest by short gripping the club and watching the butt of the club.

There does need to be a publication to separate these SA issues, because it is totally confusing.
