Subject: NG school and grass cutter

After working on NG for two years with just LOBG and discussions here and other places, I finally went to an NG school to have an NGCI check my progress. I had put it off because of distance and reports of spending all day with one hand drills.
Fortunately my instructor at Fredericksberg, Ralph English, was an expert golfer and a good instructor. You see the "new grass cutter" was a little overwhelming and not at all what I had pieced together on my own as an NG swing.
After a few days to consider I am afraid I have to agree with much of the negative sentiment voiced here. Also, trying to generate clubhead speed with arms alone has made my back more sore than it ever has been with any other swing!
To combat the tendency to hook the instructor weakened my left(lead) hand grip until the V points up my left arm. So now I have one strong(right) and one weak(grip). Very unnatural. I had been happy with palm grip and wide stance, which is becoming more common anyway, but I just can't buy off on this as an easy swing.
Oh yeah another change, you don't center the hands on set up anymore; you center the clubhead.
Perhaps it will work for some people, but I don't feel it is a technique that will help me without a lot of practice which sort of negates the whole idea of a simpler swing!
