Not really because you are using the bend to solve
a tricky problem, ie the first move down. When you push on the shaft with your left thumb, you will feel your body squat giving you solid resistance to hit into, also it is easier to maintain your balance with a bent left elbow as it takes the pull on your left side out of the swing. The less twisting you have,the easier it's going to be to maintain balance. You don't have to bend your left arm as severely as Jack does in LPG. Many "old timers" played with bent elbows.
You might consider this adding a level of playing difficulty, but it also removes difficulty.
