Subject: NEW GUINEA ISLANDS PUSH FOR AUTONOMY

PNG, land of the unexpected, is so true to its name. Unexpected, unpleasant surprises, such as rape, murder and corruption occur with monotonous impunity.

Particularly sad case is the write down of the workers contribution to the NPF by 50% due to bad management and political interference. I pity that poor public servant, who saved K50,000 over twenty years of service, only to see it dwindle to a mere k25,000 in the last three.

Given the widespread political interference with the public and private institutions, I am not surprised about the fiscal situation in today. I blame past governments, but especially PDM and Sir Mekere Morauta. Lets cut the bullshit. He was the chief economic advisor to previous governments. He has had sufficient time to formulate policies that would have got PNG out of the muck, yet did not. He knew of that beared monkey long before he entered parliament and since forming the present government, has had enough time to get rid of him. This character was rejected by his electorate yet pulls the strings in the current government. With such a bully in parliament, we will not recover for long time to come. Its no wonder that Sir Rabbie and Sir John and Sir Paulias Matane and the other G17s have finally come to realise what Bougainvilleans have long been aware of.

Productive provinces such as ENB and parts of the highlands (and Bougainville) have not received the support they need to increase productivity, leading to a situation where agricultural output was allowed to drop to twenty years behind schedule. The NGIs, the emerging hub of agribusiness, now feel they cannot be part of that prodigal beast in Waigaini. I therefore support the call by them to form an autonomous region, perhaps to be called the Federated States of Melanesia, and get the monkey off their back. The PNG government and the rest of the country continues to ride on their back by remaining unproductive and failing to contribute equally to the national purse. However, I do not blame the people. I blame those parasites in the haus tambaran that shift development priorites as if it was going out of fashion and failed miserably in the last twenty years to lay in place the structural conditions that would have encouraged the people to participate in the national economy.

The Federated States of Melanesia will become a burgeoning tourist destination as well as a thriving agricultural heart-land. Even Bougainville may be encouraged to rejoin this bloc rather than pursuing outright independence. Between them, these Federated States will be able to generate a minimum of K2b in export, most of which will be retained by them rather then going down the bottomless pit within the haus tambaran.

Get ready readers…the colonial map of PNG is about to be re-drawn.
