Some people are offended by the term kanaka because it denotes primitivism,ignorance, unkept and generally man belong peles. I am not perturbed by the term, because it does not mean a thing to me in my traditional roots. In my language kaanaka means the glide of the sea eagle. I presume that means I am as free as my totem to choose the literal meaning of this term.
