I will take the floor for a few moments only. I have read many good postings on this particular board which seem very thoughtful. Certain Asian and Latin American countries have been following the American dream for the longest amount of time, compared to countries like PNG. Is the squalor of Asian and Latin American megacities with their overwhelming poverty a comment on how close they are to meeting your dream after all these years of trying? The GNP is going up, but what about other indicators of development. We have few hungry people in PNG, what about America? We have almost no homeless people in PNG and few landless ones, what about America? We have a strong wantok system that unites families and binds friends. American friendships often seem superficial by comparison based on what Americans themselves have told me after living in PNG. Those are just a few observations that make me think that you might be overlooking quite a lot back in your home society, when you promote any superiority of your system. People have followed the prevailing economic system to do good. Some have done very well indeed. As for others.... would you always say it was their fault they fell thru the cracks? I see both good and bad on one side, and it's hard to say which is the best after an objective comparison.
