Subject: Has Maine signed anybody this spring?

I would've thought we would've heard about some signings by now. Maine has lost a lot with Justin Rowe, Clayton Brown, and possibly Ricky White not returning. Have they brought in any frontcourt players for next year?

fwiw, and this is second hand info, they've lost out on 4 big 'uns who visited, all of whom picked schools in their respective home states. the last i heard was they had a potential unlv transfer in(whose name i do not know) who can play the one or two spots and is a 4 plus(a nice get for the league) as well as a big kid, 6'8" or so, who could not get into colgate but is now looking at Maine. apparently he's quite athletic.......that's the only news i've heard........they're playing it quite close to the vest unlike in past years.

WIZ, Bainsey, Van Lier----am i close?

Is the UNLV transfer Ernest Turner? Has to be, I remember Maine was in his final 4 or 5 schools coming out of high school in New Jersey two years ago.

Rozzie: Some of what you stated is more than I knew previously, to be honest.

Will is correct. Ernest Turner is suppose to visit Maine this week or maybe it was last weekend. I don't know a whole lot about him yet other than that Coach G said he is a very good big man very atletic 6'9 or 6'10???

I saw Turner a number of times in AAU ball and was always quite impressed.I'm pretty sure he's a Jersey kid.If I remember correctly he was down to 5 very good schools along with Maine. The reason Maine was even involved was that Giannini was very friendly with either Turner's coach(Berry?) or the man who was guiding Turner during the process.Turner would be a fantastic get for the AE and Maine. He would establish himself pretty quickly as one of the best guards in the conference.

Maybe I have the wrong guy then or wrong name but I do know Coach G told me there was a big guy from Vegas coming to visit (thought he said his name was Turner)I know he was excited about possibly getting this big man who he said was very athletic. I'll post when I find out more infro on him.

That's essentially the same that I've heard Roz. We're hanging on for dear life with Rickey and the rest of the front line.

Everyone's aware of Chris Bruff, 6-4 freshman from Conn., right?

Bruff is a back-up! Maine will struggle up front! Reed is solid and Markwood will be just okay! The are screwed without White who is good! They need help up front desperately. Who will they start Campbell and White up front???

Black Bears recent history of reserve front-liners coming to the fore when it's their turn is definitely in jeopardy it would seem.

As of right now, frontcourt candidates are White (if he reclaims the fourth year), Campbell, Flavin and Dubois. If immediate help does not arrive, Flavin and/or Dubois will have to do far more than they've indicated is possible.

Reed, Hill, Udo, Petkus, Dobson, Markwood should make for a very good rotation at 1, 2 and, possibly, the 3.

Coach G gets the most out of whoever he has in the lineup at Maine. Great job with his teams over the years.

I got it right this time guys.(my mistake on previous post)
6'2" guard Ernest Turner is transferring from UNLV to UMaine. Even though Maine needs a big man this is still a great pick-up for the Blackbears. Good job Coach Gianinni!

When will he be eligible? Gianinni isn't very good at hookin them the first time around, but he's doing pretty good the second time around (Turner, Markwood). If my memory is correct, Turner was rated pretty highly coming out of high school.

Top 200 prospect out of high school, on some Top 100 lists. Should be a very nice A-East player. Him and Markwood could end up the best backcourt in the conference if both play up to potential.

Any news on big guys for Maine?

Wait until this kid finds out, unlike at UNLV, that he has to go to class at Maine. He could be in for a long winter!
