Subject: Larry Eustachy

We've been debating this in the office the last couple of days, would be interesting to see what the regulars on the board think.

Two questions:

1. Would you have fired him for his actions?

2. Would you hire him if you had an opening in your athletic department for a head coach?

My responses:

1. Yep, I would have. Might be hard to recruit in this day and age.

2. If he's gone through rehab, I'd consider it.

Would I fire him? Yes. In college athletics, there is a not-so-fine line when it comes to inappropriate contact with students.

Would I hire him? Depends on the message I want to send at whatever University I'm at. If I want to win at any cost, I'd hire him after he proved himself to be "dry". If I wanted to uphold the head coach as an ambassador to the University, then no, I wouldn't hire him at any cost.

Would I fire him - most definitely - to be honest he,his staff and his teams have had a history of covered up problems and this was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Because of his position I think he felt he was invinceable.

Would "I" hire him to be a Head Coach - NO!! Will he get hired "YES". He'll do some bogus rehab, hook on as an assistant, then become an Associate Head Coach and if he stays out of trouble he'll be a Head Coach.

School's with multi million dollar incomes from hoops have short term memory loss every now and then.

Harrick and the Shark are great examples.

Fire him? If this was the only thing the firing was to be based on, NO. Alcoholism is a disease, and he should be given a chance to get help. If he gets into a program, and it happens again, then I'd fire him.

Hire him? YES, if he proves he is in a program and his behavior changes. I think everyone deserves a second chance -- no one is perfect. If on the other hand, as some have suggested, he runs a dirty program, then NO. But having a disability (addiction to alcohol) alone -- to me -- is not a deal breaker, as long as he is getting help and keeping sober.
