Fire him? If this was the only thing the firing was to be based on, NO. Alcoholism is a disease, and he should be given a chance to get help. If he gets into a program, and it happens again, then I'd fire him.

Hire him? YES, if he proves he is in a program and his behavior changes. I think everyone deserves a second chance -- no one is perfect. If on the other hand, as some have suggested, he runs a dirty program, then NO. But having a disability (addiction to alcohol) alone -- to me -- is not a deal breaker, as long as he is getting help and keeping sober.
