Subject: A-10 and CAA will have to decide whether or not offer FB
In reply to: Dane96 's message, "Interesting talk about Conference re-alignment" on 18:42:19 04/29/03 Tue

The A-10 could sponsor FB while the CAA could become the a FB conference and the realignment could look like this:

ATLANTIC TEN CONFERENCE

SOUTHERN DIVISION
>WILLIAM & MARY
>JMU
>DELAWARE
>TOWSON
>HOFSTRA
>RICHMOND

NORTHERN DIVISION
>UMASS
>URI
>MAINE
>FORDHAM
>NEW HAMPSHIRE
>NORTHEASTERN

COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

SOUTHERN DIVISION
>VCU
>ODU
>GEORGE MASON
>GEORGE WASHINGTON
>UNC – WILMINGTON
>UNC – GREENSBORO

NORTHERN DIVISION
>ST. JOSEPH’S
>LA SALLE
>ST. BONAVENTURE
>DUQUESNE
>TEMPLE
>DREXEL

BigE......This is about the best re-alignment I have seen. It totally makes sense.....which means it will never happen unfortunately.

All these scenerios look plausible, except I dont see UA and SBU getting left out in the cold. Both schools will not give up football and are doing everything to move to IAA scholarship. Before you see Fordam and Towson leave the Patriot in Football, you will see UA and SBU take their place in your alignment. I actually see Fordam going back to the Patriot for everything, with Towson following suit.

Towson's already left the Patriot for football. They join the A-10 next season.

I think your scenario is plausible, but remember, Temple plays 1-A football, and won't be caught in a non-multi sport conference. Their admission chip to a multi-sport conference is basketball.

Fordham's athletic department is a bit screwed up, so they may need to stay in the PL in the near future.

Also, I think these CAA schools are all bound at the waist with real large departure charges, so unless all hell breaks loose, I can't see the league breaking in half.
