Re: BingU signs -- Josh, 08:26:44 05/09/03 Fri
From what I hear, Lucas is a great defender and a true point guard. So while Bing will miss Green's offense, he nor Baker were really what you would call true point guards and neither one was great at passing the ball. With Bing's big men a good passer and defender is what they can use in the backcourt.
As for Hailey(sp?), the word is that he's a hell of a shooter, but a little weak defensively. Look for him to come off the bench, as Bing has plenty in the 2-3 positions.

Lucas averaged 7.5 pts, 2.1 rbs, and 3.2 assists this past year at Redlands CC. That's not too impressive, so I hope he's a good defender as everyone is saying.

Watson -- Bearcats fan, 17:43:11 05/10/03 Sat
I'd guess Hermenier as starter at the 4 -- he'll be good once he gets the mental part of the game down and finishes more consistently, both things I think will come this year when he's (hopefully) healthy.
And if Lucas isn't supposed to be a scorer, then why bring him in? Why can't Watson start then? Seems to me Walker has something against Watson, perhaps a Michael Wright situation all over again? Brett hasn't gotten a chance - he deserves it. He's one of the hardest workers and really doesn't complain outwardly about the bad situation he's in. If I was him, I would have left.

Re: Watson -- Josh, 23:33:16 05/10/03 Sat
Watched Watson when he was at UCONN and followed his career since he transfered to Bing.
First year eligible at Bing, he played with a broken hand, and wasn't very effective.
This year he was in the shadow of Green and Baker, who were both a lot physically tougher than Brett. He had some chances, but didn't demonstrate either the shooting ability of passing ability to break down any defenses.
From what I saw of him at UCONN, he was (is) a great kid, and seems to be dealing with his present lack of playing time like a man. He'll probably get some more chances as a senior, and I certainly hope that he capitalizes on them.

Watson had one of the best assist-to-turnover ratio's in the league. I wouldn't have played Green or Baker less, but I sure hope Watson gets a chance this year. He's quick and a pretty good defender -- not physical like Baker, but still good. I'm just surprised they would sign a PG that's not a scorer. I figured they'd at least try to get a guy like Anthony. We'll see what develops.
