I agree. Although I admit Binghamton would be alot easier for Albany fans to swallow because it's so much closer. As an Albany fan it pains me to say it but BingU has done a pretty good job in their transition to D1 and there is no reason to think they won't do a good job with the tourney. I think the tourney in a town the size of Binghamton will probably be alot bigger deal for the local community than it was in Boston. Don't get me wrong I don't think it's really "fair" either. Especially to fans from Maine and UNH but we may all be coming back from the tourney next year talking about what a great event it was.

Despite all the acrimony displayed in the posts, I think it's fair to say that we all just would like a reasonably-well-planned-and-executed tournament in a location that isn't burdensome to a great percentage of the league's few hard-core fans.

We all agree that Boston the past two years was "pretty decent" at Matthews and "stunk" at BU. And I think it's pretty much a consensus that Bing (or Albany) would do a fine job of hosting.

It's got nothing to do with the "old guard" vs. newcomers. We just yearn for a fairly well run tournament at a fairly central location.

Myself, I plan to attend whether it's in Binghamton, Hartford or Albany. If it's Binghamton, that amounts to two vacation days. So be it.

Bing fans, don't think that our complaining is directed at you. Most AE posters have and will toast our own institutions for their collective lack of motivation/inspiration when it comes to marketing, planning and bidding for something like the conference tournament.

Portland would be a great location for the AE tournament. Nice city. Good (but not great arena). But do I have any faith that our UMaine administration, with all these alums living in southern Maine, could pull it off.

For whatever reasons, there's lots of folks in New England who think the idea of a sporting event is to just sell tickets, open the doors and keep score.

Someday, we may join the rest of the basketball world.
