Kyle is a great player but had a suspect season. He played terrible in the state tournament and at times doesn't play defense. He reallys needs a year of prep school to develop consistency against legitimate talent. He is a high major shooter but lacks heart and desire. Vermont intends on redshiriting him which is a good idea. I don't know where Cieplicki currently fits into Vermont's plans. After the state tournament, Vermont offered 6-5 wing forward Ivan Marnika of Archbishop Molloy Hs in Queens, New York. Rumor is Marnika committed and will sign with the Cats. Marnika and Cieplicki play the same position. Marnika couldn't start at Middlebury forget about UVM. So he to will likely redshirit. Keep in mind the Cats have one scholarship to give. They can't afford to become whiter. They need size and athleticism. I am a big fan of quotas and feel minorities ought to receive at least one fourth of all the available DI basketball scholarships. I don't understand why the Cats didn't pursue athletes with this recruiting class, then next fall sign Cieplicki while in prep school since he committed a long time ago. This recruiting class is more important than next season because of numbers. The Cats only have two to give next season. They ideally want both Jeff Xavier and James Sorrentine. They definitely will get one of those targets. Cieplicki could have beem used as Plan B in the Jeff Xavier sweepstakes. I can't believe Larry Harrison is being given serious consideration at USF. Tom Brennan and Jesse Agel are better coaches. Maybe someone ought to look at them. Any word on Vermont's schedule for next season. I believe Vermont currently needs five games is being rumored to be in a three day tournament at URI's Ryan Center with Providence, Virginia and one other team.
There is a slight possibly another a couple of DIII opponents could be on the schedule. I would love to see Vermont and DIII national champ Williams hook up for a game at Patrick Gym. Do you think Tim O'Shea might bring his Ohio Bobcats to Burlington to see his brother?

Marnika has played a much better level of comp than Cieplicki and is a much more complete and better player. Arch Bishop Molloy plays tougher comp day in and day out than the schools in Vermont.

And before bashing other coaches check Brennan's lifetime record.

[> [> [> Marnika -- Ramfan, 19:19:37 04/10/03 Thu

Funny how Marnika "couldn't start at Middlebury", yet he excelled in the best high school league in the country, bar none. I'm not saying he's the second coming, but he's a 6'5'' WF who can shoot the three consistently and will bring good toughness. Columbia wanted him, as well. Who is your source? Have you even seen the kid play?

Do you know if it's true that he's coming to Vermont? I've never seen him, but I've heard good things, and think he'd be a nice addition.
