Subject: At long last, the future of this board...

Ok, as promised, here are a couple of options we can pursue in response to the general suckery of the Voy system as of late...

First, I received an offer the other day to move this board to NCAABBS.com, a site that is trying to consolidate boards from many conferences into one site. If you want to check/test out these boards, the operator recommended you go to the A-10 board here...

http://www.ncaabbs.com/forums/a10/invision/

Our set-up would have a board for the AE like we do now, plus individual school boards.

The other option that was suggested would be to set-up something like the Siena board has now. If you want to try out that style of board, you can go and tell Siena how much they suck here (my Albany approval rating just shot up)...

http://www.arborwood.com/awforums/show-toparea-1.php?fid=7155&taid=1

This would be like what we have now, an AE conference board, except with a different set-up and a different location.

The one small catch: both of these boards require registration, so you will have to do that before checking them out. That's the breaks.

Ok, so here's what I think: go check out these boards, and decide which one you like the best. I think either one would be a suitable option. Basically, I think whichever one people like the best should be our choice. I guess that's all I've got to say. Check 'em out, and post your replies.

I know someone who might be willing to be the administrator for the Maine board if we end up with one for individual schools. He runs the UMaine Voy site and is fed up as well.

Both are better than what we have now. I think I like the Siena board a little better, I'm not sure we have enough fan interest to really have individual school boards.

Both are an improvement, I'd go with either one.

I concur...and yes...even though we loved you before...your approval rating has shot up faster than George Bush could hope for, w/ your SIENA SUCKS comments!

One thing that I like about both examples is that you don't have to perfom another web access to read EACH post like you do with Voy. One read and you get the entire thread, well at least as much as fits on one page.

A feature of the forum Siena used that I liked was the reply button on each post rather than the generic one at the end of the thread on the A-10 forum. That helps to make sense of replies. Now, if the replies could be sequenced like on Voy (sequenced by what they replied to rather than by time posted) then that would be even better.

With just a quick look, either is an improvement in format and must be an improvement in performance. I'd give the Siena Forum the preference due to the reply featured I mentioned.

Do you know what the policy is for both of these forums in regard to advertising? There are a couple of forums that I read that constantly launch pop up windows with ads. At least Voy didn't do that to us nor did the CAAZone site either. Just one other thing to keep in mind.

Also, I want to mention again how much we appreciate your efforts as forum administrator. The AE isn't the Big East or ACC, but this forum has made being an AE fan just as much fun for a good number of us! Thank you for all your work!!

[> Motion -- Bainsey, 12:58:45 04/15/03 Tue

I like the way that both are set up, but if I had to choose, I'd vote Arborwood. I like any message board system where each thread has a scroll down option as opposed to click every single message. The latter was encouraged by my rivals.com colleagues, because it "increases your hits," but I still say if you make an easier product to use, THAT will increase your hits. (We all went broke anyway, so it didn't matter in our case.)

I'm going to make a motion: I move that we all email GoCatsGo (one vote per user, of course) our preference for a new site.

I like the Arborwood board(Siena). Fairfield has also moved to this board.

I assume that both of these board potentials are free. If not or even if there is a better option I'd certainly be willing to chip in or pay the full cost involved(depending what it is).

I echo UNH fan from CT sentiments when saying how important this board is to us. Thanx as always for your time regarding this board go cats go.

I, too, liked the Arborwood site a lot. Both actually seem very good.

Some posters commented that they like the ability to see all of the string -- I like that, too. Voy can do that as well -- see the Holy Cross board on Voy. HC's Voy board also has a nice feature where, when you post, you get an interim screen that allows you to check your message before you actually post it (avoids premature and multiple posts). That would be a nice feature to have as well if it is easy to implement, and it's available.

I want to join the others as well in thanking Go Cats Go on setting up and maintaining the board. Often its humor/information/etc. is the highlight of my day. Thanks!

It seems lately the Arborwood site has been acting weird. I haven't been able to open it the last couple of times I've went there.
