Hi Mark,

As you know, my boys are 14 and almost 17, so both are under 18 at the moment. I will share though that perhaps 4 or 5 months ago my oldest asked me how much longer I plan to be spanking him. I basically gave home two answers. One was that they will continue as long as necessary and beneficial for him. Then I explained that I don’t think spankings should cease just because someone turns 18 or any other age. I told him that even after 18, if it needs to be done, it will happen. I told him that I really hope that after 18 there will be fewer spankings and lead to being a rare event, but frankly at least an option on the table.

Once my boys are 18, I can see where I will be tested, whether consciously or subconsciously. I am near certain that post-18 they will likely make some bad choices or behaviors that will warrant a spanking. It will be very important in my opinion that I respond to that “test” very appropriately., meaning if a spanking is warranted that I follow through with it. Just like when they are younger, we have to follow through. I would hope that after a couple of spankings after 18 that it would then be rather rare, but again, an option that is still on the table.

I highly respect those that at least keep the option open post-18.

Mark, how old are your son and daughter? Are either over 18? Do you plan to keep the option of spanking alive after 18? How does Irene feel about after 18?
