Mary, I agree that those follow-up spankings are best avoided. Very painful on an al;ready sore red bottom.

Interesting comment "When they very young they were learning if they struggled with me anytime during the spanking process or when they did make me chase them then I would give a second ‘hand’ spanking a half hour after the first one" insofar as its closeness to the first spanking. I do understand your reasoning though for younger boys. Still, they must have dreaded bending back over your knee for that second bare bottom spanking.
