Subject: T'yin takes the next part of this lesson upon himself to demonstrate. >>>
In reply to: D'tir and Kuvoth 's message, "*Walking over to the group he smiles warmly to all the weyrlings and their dragons.*" on 00:11:55 12/31/01 Mon

With a gentle smile, he speaks in a clear, yet still subdued, tone. "Good job, everyone. The next thing you need to do is get your dragon used to your weight, and get you used to motion while strapped in. It's quite different from a runner, from which you can easily fall." The rider slaps Viouth's neck lightly, and she begins a slow stroll, making her steps smooth and not jerky, as most weyrlings tend to walk. "Tell your dragon to walk you around, circles or lines or zigzags, it doesn't matter. This accomplishes both goals - the dragon will be accustomed to your weight, and you'll get a feel for your balance when strapped in." ~Your turn, love,~ T'yin murmurs to his green as the pair come to a halt.

Viouth's strong, commanding mental voice is far different from her rider's as she speaks to the dragons. Walk around, it's not that difficult. Make your stride as flowing as possible, otherwise your riders may well get jerked a little too hard. From this moment on, you'll need to be step-conscious when your human is astride - too much romping and jerking and they'll snap right in half! It's fairly obvious that this last part is untrue, though both green and rider have seen careless dragons inflict minor injuries on their riders. Their weight on your shoulders may feel weird, but get used to it, it's going to be this way the rest of your lives. Spread your wings, making sure not to flap anyone in the head, and try walking like that. There's enough room in this area for everyone. Keep in your mind that, eventually, their weight will be right over your center of gravity when flying, which will not affect your balance any. Go ahead. Viouth stops talking, satisfied that she'd remembered her own training from a scant three years ago.
