there is no advantage up to the age 12 or even after the age of 20. but the performance gap widens with each passing year in the teen years. The hormones of male puberty create an environment for adventageous musculoskeletal changes, increased red blood mass and lower fat mass. Hormones change girls bodies differently. "Puberty is the one injury a girl can't come back from."

If you were ever an elite or competitive athlete, you'd understand that.
