It doesn't take a 20 year old 2 months to learn skips or 4 months to rally. It takes most 5 year olds longer to learn than adults so once the basics are mastered, it's just hard work that comes into play. Dance for fun and perhaps feis a bit if it's of interest. But if you want to compete and compete on a regional, national or worlds level, there is a bit of work that comes with it, regardless of age. Do away with adult comps and just add more age groups so that 40 year olds aren't dancing with 23 year olds. Their level of skill should be similar even though their bodies may not physically be able to perform similarly anymore. This is why 8 year olds and 18 year olds don't compete together either.
