Hello all!

We are having a real winter with a good amount of snow and long frosty period. On some days the temperature goes above freezing, so the snow is thawing a bit in the sun and then freezing again in the night, leading to unpleasant ice. Gravel and salt used as an anti-slipping measure doesn't make it pleasant either.

The children are excited whenever we have new snow, it's soft and fantastic to play in, they just love romping around in it with their bare feet, skiing pants, legwarmers, jackets and hats up to half an hour. Since most of their ways to school and shops don't involve a longer time outside they are doing those barefoot. No signs of frost damage such as blisters or peeling skin, they have remarkable circulation and are cautious enough not to risk too much. So there's no day they haven't spent less than 15 minutes barefoot in the snow each, everything taken together.

They are actually looking forward to slightly milder days when we will try longer hikes even with snow still on the ground. It's just important not to overdo it, we all know there are limitations to endurance, but finding one's limits is actually fun!
