Subject: Re: Atlantic 10

The talk about the A 10 dropping the Bonnies and adding possibly Siena has further livened up what is already te most exciting time of the year.
While there is little question that Siena's Mens and Womens Basketball Teams could compete in the A 10, what about all of their other Sports Teams. I remember that when Fordham joined the A 10 there was some interest about Manhattan joining but the costs of joining were astronomical. Fordham's travel budget tripled when they joined the A 10 and their budget has also now tripled.
Although the MAAC has some requirements about scholarships and commitments by the Schools in the "minor" sports, I think they are rarely enforced. The A 10 on the other hand has minimum scholarship requirements in all sports. I think at the time Manhattan would have had to give out somewhere around 40 additional scholarships to comply. The other consideration was the increase in the amount of time that student-athletes were out of class due to the lengthy raodtrips required. Based upon the statistics recently shown on the Fordham Board. Siena has one of the lowest athletic budgets in the MAAC. If Siena is not willing to spend money on Athletics in the MAAC, are they going to be willing to double or triple their Atletic buget in order to join the A 10.
