Subject: Jeez, that SBU article made a crapstorm here

Reading it, seemed like a writer was again just trying to make his mark by stating a controversial and suspect point of view. You know, if you come out and say things like that, who cares if you have any foundation for your statements, what's important is that people read you. Thus my opinion of the popular for-profit media at large. I am reading less and less of these numbnuts' works and more messageboards and am getting a lot more out of it. Everyone should be so enlightened.

Trying to make comparisons between VBK and Lanier is just plain stupid - ask the people at Vandy & Pepperdine. Exalting Lanier to being the "one that got away" in his 2nd year is stupid, when so many here are questioning the guy's coaching skills on a game-to-game basis. It hasn't even been a full 12 months since some Siena fans were calling for his head. Again, just stupid, stupid writing but much of what I've come to expect from the Buffalo News over the years. (Yes, I said stupid 4 times in this paragraph.)

Even if the A-10 is just a good mid-major conference (losing steam), the expectations there are higher, you are viewed and measured (even if unjustly) as major programs... Lanier's bumbling about that he did in year 1 (and some would say year 2) would have drawn the ire of SBU backers & also most of the A-10, much sooner than he drew it from the Siena fans (the MAAC fans barely cared). Different ballgame.

That said, I posted below regarding the fiery SBU posts on our board. Leave us alone. We don't care. We didn't write the article. Your points about the SBU program being head and shoulders over ours are ludicrous - and there is plenty to back this up. Olean is a tough place to play. It's an even worse place to be forced to drive to. Get real. We say all the time Albany is a great opportunity for Siena since there's no major sports to keep the attention away. So, what is there to compete with you in Olean? We still outdraw you. There are more people in Albany. Too much contradictory logic to try and compare on that basis either - so go away.

By the way, I recommend that Olean's premier sports joint (O'Reilly) be renamed The Olestra. Would be wonderful and a great marketing move. Again, just enjoy your pretend major program, see if you can cancel a few more games against your long-standing Buffalo Catholic friends, and stay out of the thriving metropolis of Albany which I'm pretty sure has a traffic light or two - might confuse you.
