Subject: For all the flack we give him, Ruland deserves credit.

This post was coming at halftime of this game, so I'm not just in a chipper mood because Siena won. Iona has had some questionable recruits come through the last few years - not talent wise, but character wise. Ruland was able to cruise through his first couple of years with all of the talent left behind by Welsh. While it may have been brought upon himself, with the number of recruits that have left Iona in the last three years it's amazing they aren't a dreck of a team/program. I think the two best freshman classes battled it out tonight. Ruland finally saw the light and brought in not only solid recruits, but it seems like he brought in some kids that are more polished as people and will be on-court leaders soon. Ruland has Iona setup for the foreseeable future with that group of frosh - and he should be applauded. The MAAC isn't the MAAC when Iona isn't near the top of the league. With the young kids running around the court and battling tonight, it looks like the MAAC title is always going to have to go through Iona and Siena - the way it should be.
