The starting salary in the UK is about £16,000 (which works out at about 73,200 PGK a year) - on top of that there is an extra allowance if you teach in London.
However, rather than looking at the actual amount you would need to look at how much things cost to buy.
If you were coming from PNG then they would look at the expreince and so on you have there. Also in some London boroughs you get reduced rent or other incentives to live there.

If you want to see the current salary scales they are on the tes web site
http://www.tes.co.uk/search/search_display.asp?section=Your+Career&sub_section=Pay+and+Pensions+%2D+Pay+scales+and+more&id=3885&Type=1

I got the conversion rates from www.xe.com

There is a site that lets you compare the cost of living in different cites.
As far as I can tell earning £16,000 in the UK would let you buy about the same amount of stuff as earning £12,000 (58,754.90 PGK) in PoM.

The site that I got that info from is www.homefair.com (follow the links to the internation settings as the default page is comparing US cities)

If you had to do any kind of training program I think that the UK govt would pay for it - but from what I can tell the Overseas teachers thaat they hire are those that they feel can cope with UK system anyway.

>K800 a week to teach in the UK? How much do they pay
>the POMS? Must be a part time assistant teacher job.

>licensing program, at your cost of course, then you
>can start after two years. If they are so short, then
>it must be some London back yard settlements that can
>make do with third world teachers.
