My dad would end with words like, "I hope that you learned a good lesson." Then he'd leave me to cry it out.

Mother would tell me it was over and let me remain over her lap while she rubbed my back and shoulders and told me that I'd taken my spanking like a good girl. Then, when I was ready she'd help me smooth down my skirt and give me a kiss.
