I think the idea of how memory may distort our childhood perceptions is fascinating. I have somewhat the opposite problem of some of the other folks. Except for my last spanking at age 10, I have very little memory of my spankings at all. I've pieced together snippets of five times I believe I was spanked, and that's it. I'm not sure if there were any more that I've completely forgotten.
One of them is just a moment, a hazy sense memory of being in trouble after I was swimming. I was fairly young, no older than 5/6. I can feel myself standing in my wet bathing suit, and being cold because I was inside in the air conditioning. Then my mom pulling the arm straps of the bathing suit over my shoulders and all the way down, until the bathing suit was just a wet tangle around my ankles. Then just knowing I was about to go over her knee. But nothing about the spanking itself.
Similarly, I have a vague memory of being in trouble for not picking up my toys. I think she made me pull my own shorts and underwear down. I sort of remember the command to bend over her lap, and thinking to myself that I really hated that part. That would imply that it had happened enough times in the past to be a familiar experience. Again, I don't remember the spanking itself, but I do remember crying and being held afterwards. That felt familiar too.
There were two where there weren't very many swats, where memory doesn't really come into play, because I know they were quite short. And then the last one that I do remember from start to finish. And for that one, I definitely feel like I was over her knee forever. I described that one on another forum (the childhood memories board), and I said that I thought I probably got around 80-100 swats. I based that estimate on the fact that my mom was spanking hard and FAST, more than one per second, the length of time I felt I was over her knee, and the amount of time that the sting lasted. Someone responded and said she was sure it wasn't that many swats. At the time, I was a tiny bit annoyed. I recall thinking that my butt was the one that was there, so I should know. Now, your experiences, which match so many others, are making me doubt just a little. I still think my estimate is pretty close. What do you think?
