Steph. At those ages, why would you ever use anything but your hand? I was hand spanked at age 12 and quite effectively.

Hi Louise,

That is a fair question. It has more so to do with the teaching on use of the rod from Scripture. We try to use a neutral instrument to spank with instead of our hands, unless of course we don't have one. But we also know that they are only 6 and 4 years old, so we do not use any big tools like paddles, either. The wooden spoon I typically use is lightweight and smooth, so I don't need to worry about it leaving bruises or being inappropriately harsh. That's my main reasoning!
