Sorry for the short answer…I was a bit pressed for time, and didn’t want your post to go without being acknowledged.
The young lady I mentored was the first in her family to attend college, and was told she’d never succeed. Determined to prove the nay-sayers wrong, she also knew herself well enough to realize that she had no chance of doing so absent some form of accountability, so she sought it out online. She went from being a follower of the wrong crowd to a leader of the right one, and graduated with honors.
Along the way, however, especially early on, she made some very poor decisions, in some very serious ways - admitted DUI, shoplifting, academic procrastination, texting while driving - accident resulting….all of which resulted in appropriately serious consequences, of the strict, very formal, old-fashioned variety, designed to thoroughly punish - mentally and emotionally as well as physically…truly dreaded corrections, aimed to guarantee that she’d think two, three, or four times if she ever considered repeating such behavior.
So what’s your backstory?
