A further couple of thoughts;

Back in the early 1990s, an L2 cache for a 68040 must have been a standard kind of textbook design that Motorola or the sellers of the fast RAM required put on their datasheets. The problem is that this ear was just before the impact of the WWW, so searching has so far produced little.

Also, this was the kind of thing that Amiga people used to love doing. A 68040 is a 68040 whatever machine it's in, so it might be worth looking at old Amiga products for a CPU-socket L2 cache board.

Stuart.
