Interesting thought!

20 years ago a friend and I built all sorts of 'his-design' stuff for Apple IIs - 8" disc controller, display cards etc etc. My electronics has hardly been used since then, but he has kept his going, alongside migrating from being an electronics design engineer to a Unix guru.

He just might be interested in a project - there's generally so little 'hacking' - in the PROPER sense of that word - that one can do with modern computers.

I guess the advantages of this idea are:

1. No esoteric problems with Apple-Specific circuitry - we're connecting directly to the CPU.

2. No software issues at all.

One obvious question is whether we know what memory devices are used in caches for other Macs.

Anyone got any? IIci? Any others?

There might be trouble with surface mount components of course. 20 years ago it was all 0.1" pin denisty that you could wire-wrap or solder!

Stuart.
