'66MHz' CPUs are really 33MHz parts. They work internally at 33MHz, and Motorola used the dual-speed nomenclature to try to disguise the fact that Intel were winning the 'CPU clock speed' race - races which continue to this day!

You could call 40MHz CPUs '80MHz' by the same logic - hence MicroMac talk about '90MHz' parts when they mean '45MHz'.

I am 100% certain that the 040 range stopped at 40/45MHz. Indeed, I think that 45MHz parts may just be overclocked 40MHz units. So, 40MHz parts are faster than so-called '66MHz' units!

hth,
Stuart
