Subject: Update: Failed VGA mod: IT LIVES!!!! @$%**#*#*#&$%
In reply to: Adam 's message, "Re: Failed VGA mod - I think I killed my CC !!!!" on 22:37:40 10/27/01 Sat

I undid the VGA mod, wiring pin 8 directly to pin 9 (with copper) reconnected pins 20 and 25 (mine is the jumperless a/b), removed the pin 20-24 jumper, reinserted the original CC l/b and THE CC LIVES!!!#&#&#&

Therefore, I have to assume I screwed up the VGA mod, but I can't work out what I did wrong with it. (Yes I remembered to put in the 575 l/b). Given that I went over the pin 8->12 connection time and again, I'd have to guess that I screwed up the sense-wire mods, but why would the fan slow as the CRT came on?

I dunno, anyone have any ideas? I'm sort of tossing around the idea that I might have a weak a/b which can't handle the extra strain of the mod. Problems I've had in the past include:

I. The screen has always had a slight 'kink' along the lower edge of the image
II. One of the resistors has cooked the glue which was dumped on it (by the factory) and
III. Two diodes have heat marks around them.

The first two were always there, the third _might_ have been a product of the failed mod. Later on I'll take another look and provide the component numbers of resistor and diodes if anyone wants (I'd like to compare this with other people's CC a/bs)
Still, if this was a weak a/b issue, surely someone else would have encountered it by now.

Sometime over the next week, I'll go _carefully_ back over the mod and see if I can get it to work this time. If not, I'll see where I go from there, but I expect I'll take the CC back down to it's original state permanently. (Anyone have any suggestions on how they would go about permanently undoing the mods? The job I've done for th moment is really only a temporary measure.)

Anyway, my CC lives. I'm happy :)

Cheers,
Adam.
