Well I tried replacing the aluminium wire with a copper one. While I was in there, I blew out the analog board thoroughly to remove any metal shavings etc. that may have remained. Still nothing.

The way it starts up, with the fan (I think it's the fan) winding down momentarily as the screen tries to come on seems to imply there isn't enough power coming from the board.

The analog board isn't a total loss; the l/b and HD still get power, the Mac chimes when turned on, and the keyboard restart combination works. (Sometimes howebver, I have to press the power key several times to start 'er up.)

One thing I noticed today is that the Mac still makes that "prowwww" sound (which I presume is the CRT shutting down) as it's turned off. So maybe the CRT is being activated, but no video's getting through. (The needle was right next to that little cage that houses the Video circuitry, so maybe that's hosed.)

Later today, I'll try reverting it back to it's original CC state to see if it will work at all. If not I guess the analog board is, in fact permanently fried.

I'll make an attempt to get a new a/b - on the LEM lists (www.lowendmac.com), usenet and from suppliers. In the (likely) chance that I can't find one, then this sad event paves the way for one of those "lets put a 10" POS monitor and PowerPC l/b in this here CC chassis."

This Mac _WILL_ live again. You can count on it.

Cheers,
Adam.
