Hey Chris,

Just an idea...

How 'bout creating a "Troubleshooting" section on your VGA modification web page?

Here's a suggestion: After switching the 'puter on and using the power key to power-up and hearing all the normal "power-up sounds" you still have a black screen.

What to do first: with the power on, check the brightness adjustment on the left side of the 'puter (you facing the monitor - you should see two small "donut-shaped" adjusting thingies (thingy = technical term) one labeled "VG2" and one labeled "FOCUS". Using a plastic monitor adjusting tool turn the one labeled VG2 clockwise.

The reason: Because after doing the VGA mod to my analog board(A/B), all I got was a black screen (normal start-up noises). I checked ALL A/B connections at least 10x (lost count after 7x) and checked the wiring from Logicboard(L/B) to A/B with a circuit tester 3x.

THEN, since it still didn't work, I took the L/B to A/B wires off and re-wired the entire thing. Tested each connection 2x. It still didn't work.

THEN, I took the L/B out and put it into a working PCC and the L/B checked out ok.

THEN, I swapped the wiring harnass of the working PCC with the "dead" PCC. No luck there.

THEN, I tried the 13" (high voltage) mod (removing J78 and making a solder bridge over J79 as per web-site instructions. Still no luck...

Finally, I decided to try and twiddle (another techie term) with the monitor adjustments and THAT was the problem. I just turned the little adjuster clockwise to increase brightness and Viola! the Mac OS 8 desktop staring back at me. Didn't know know whether to laugh or cry...

Note: After doing each test I put everything back together and powered up the 'puter.

Whew!

Hope this saves someone a little anguish.
