Subject: Right way to solder a CC?

After spending another day trying to get the Colour Classic VGA mod going for no success, I've begun to suspect the quality of the solder joints with which I'm linking pins 8 to 12. (This the the VGA mod linked to on the CC Mega FAQ, with all mods confined to the a/b)

What I was wondering, was what would you consider the 'correct way' to solder the wire to these pins. At the moment, I do it as follows:

1) Remove the old solder from the pin with a solder sucker
2) Apply a little solder to the pin, enough to connect it to the board.
3) Get the wire and wrap the end around a little screwdriver (approximately the same thickness of the pin) to create a loop.
4) Fit the newly created loop over the pin.
5) Apply solder to fix it in place.

I'm a little concerned that the copper wire might be 'wicking' up the solder, creating bad joints, which are hard to check for when done like this as the pin is more or less out of sight.

On the other hand, when I reverted the a/b to it's original form after the first unsucessful attempt at 640x480, I used this method to reattach pins 8 and 9, and that worked...

Cheers,
Adam.
