Subject: Update (thwarted!)
In reply to: John Stocker 's message, "My 3rd Power Color Classic (in progress)" on 23:52:27 04/16/01 Mon

This weekend I added a Pioneer 305s slot loading DVD to my new power color classic, cutting a 1/8" tall slot in the front of the machine, perfectly placed such that the ejecting CD never comes close to touching either edge. Immediately the machine became rediculously unstable. Bus errors abounded on boot and merciless freezes occurred constantly. And when both the ibm hard drive and the DVD-ROM peaked in power draw- CLICK! My color classic would spontaneously shut off.

I thought I could keep everything nice and clean and tidy with just the single 6360 power supply. Unfortunately the LCD, 7200RPM drive, and 10X DVD was the ruin of my plans. They handily overpowered the 120 watt supply. If I ever hope to add the magma pci expansion I must resort to the whole messy business of secondary power supplies and relays and such. Alas, back to the drawing board. I think there's enough room for 40 watts in the bubble in the case's top.
