My 6500 board works fine in my CC, with the 3.3v regulator on a little board as shown on my site, with no separate PSU other than that. Takky says that sometimes a second PSU is needed; one to drive the HD would fit behind the floppy, requiring an alternative speaker.

Not AFAIK. I'm hoping to try doing it later this year, with a late-model iMac board - larger, but should drive a slot-load CD/DVD drive located behind an extended CC floppy slot, as in my 'CD in CC'.
